A dinner with crabs (not at my table but as dish...) in Repvåg, then a couple of hours of sleep in a rorbu and finally in the car, heading north,
and further north than that would be harder since my destination is north cape. Are you ready? Let's go...
Dinner in Repvåg, a couple of hours of sleep then in the car, heading north.
Further north would be harder.
My destination is North Cape.
Are you ready? Let's go...
The route is long... 80 kilometres and there are curves, tunnels and other kind of obstacles: reindeers.
I realised only now that the car in front of me was Italian... what a great trip should have been their one. From south of Europe to the extreme north!

I just noticed that the car in front of me was Italian...
What a great trip from south of Europe to the extreme north!
Reindeers were a constant along my entire trip in Lapland. One day after this trip to North Cape I stopped my car in a dangerous position, inside a tunnel,
to convince a specimen of this beautiful and peaceful mammal to reach its mates outside the tunnel. I succeeded.

They really don't want to leave me... You can't be distracted a moment that a reindeer is crossing the road in front of your car.
Good for them that is July in northern Norway and there is a lot of light even if is almost 2:00 AM.

The road goes on, between the sea that is all around.
And the light is so strange...
Too much light to say it's night... Too weird to say it's day...

Unfortunately the night is cloudy. Midnight sun is there somewhere but I can't see directly...
Looks like that only the sea deserves its rays... and I can just take pictures of the enlightened waves...

Ripples are happily running pushed by a light breeze under midnight sun rays.
The result is a wonderful golden pattern.

North Cape is getting closer. Only few kilometres and I will reach it.
The colour of the sea, suddenly change, from golden to an elegant mix of blue and grey.

And finally, behind one more curve, the landscape opens and the profile of North Cape appears in front of me.
The midnight sun exists! You just need to make a leap of faith and enjoy the colours painted all around.

Such a remote place but certainly this doesn't scare the flock of tourists gathered around the metal globe.
The long, long trip up to this place must be certified by a photo.

No... It's not. I'm sorry to break illusions. North Cape is not the northernmost point of Europe for two reasons:
it is located on an island (connected to the mainland by a tunnel) and also because, on same island there is another point located slightly further north.
For those who wants to know it... northernmost point of mainland Europe is Cape Nordkinn, also in Norway.

I can't say I like it. It really ruins the atmosphere but, the north cape hall is a useful shelter from the cold and a good place where sipping a coffee before going back.
And of course is the place to buy souvenirs and postcards to say to the world: I was in North Cape!

Before coming back to my rorbu
(by the way... a rorbu is a traditional cabin that was originally used by fishermen),
I take a last look from the cliff. Sun keeps hiding.

A bit sleepy I get into the car again and I head South, of course.
No reindeers along my way this time. They sleep...
Only wonderful roads and amazing morning landscapes.

Halfway from Repvåg, I decide to stop for a while in Honningsvåg, a charmy village full of red houses (the mentioned Rorbu).
By the way, at the time, in this village there was the northermost brewery in the world, Nordkapp Mikrobryggeri, but at 5:00 AM it was closed.
Now, as far as I know, is not in business anymore. Who knows who holds this record, now...
